Faster installation beats rising water - The Cottages at Greenland

While the surrounding wetland is a fantastic draw-card for the luxurious new development at Jacksonville, the subsequent rising water table presented an issue for the installation of the stormwater drainage. The water table meant that excavated trenches would begin to fill with water before pipes could be laid, a significant hindrance for any pipe installation process. But civil contractors All Florida Site and Utilities decided to use Hardie® Pipe and avoided this problem altogether.

All Florida Site and Utilities Project Field Superintendent Ron Hill recognised that by digging out 16ft lengths at a time their pipe crew would increase their laying speed and stay ahead of the rising water table. “Hardie® Pipe allowed us to stay ahead of the water with fewer joints to put together. We love the 16ft lengths; it makes our job so much easier and faster.”

The faster installation rate not only negated the rising water table issue but also increased the pipe crew’s productivity. While other RCP’s are provided in standard 8ft lengths, Hardie® Pipe’s standard 16ft lengths allowed the pipe crew to half the number of laying operations and complete the installation 2 weeks ahead of their December 2005 deadline.

The Cottages at Greenland is a landmark project for Vestcor Communities who have successfully combined luxury living with the natural beauty of the Jacksonsville wetlands area. 3969ft of Class III and IV Hardie® Pipe has been used in this project.
