 | Easing the pressure for a Better Jacksonville
“Hardie® Pipe is much easier to lay than other storm pipe and it increased our installation productivity by nearly 30%." Tom Holsinger, Superintendent, Jensen Civil Construction.
Project Name: 8th Street - Main Street to Liberty Street Location: 8th Street, Jacksonville, Florida Client: City of Jacksonville, Better Jacksonville Plan Civil Engineer: Eisman and Russo General Contractor: Jensen Civil Construction Completion Date: Mid 2007 Hardie® Pipe Used: 3,088ft of Class III standard Hardie® Pipe
With a rapid population growth pushing the limits of city infrastructure, the City of Jacksonville identified the need to upgrade utility and drainage systems, reconstruct curbs and sidewalks, and improve public spaces in line with FDOT requirements. The $2.25 billion Better Jacksonville Plan is a key initiative to accelerate these upgrade projects, such as the three-lane urban roadway, which will be completed within 7-10 years instead of the original 16-20 year timeframe.
Located in the center of the city, the 8th Street upgrade had to contend with congested traffic areas, strict timeframes, and limited storage space. Such a typically complex project was simplified by Jensen Civil Constructions selection of Hardie® Pipe as their RCP.
The easy installation of Hardie® Pipe's 16ft lengths gave Jensen Civil Constructions a great head-start on their project efficiencies. Their Superintendent, Tom Holsinger was impressed with the pipe's performance, "Hardie® Pipe is much easier to lay than other storm pipe. It even looks clean and neat. The longer joints increased our installation productivity by nearly 30%." The pipe's low insertion forces and flush exterior joints mean less effort and strain to join pipelines, making the pipe easier to lay. Hardie Pipe's unique palletized bundling system also enabled a safe and efficient storage of pipes on-site, a significant advantage in any high traffic area.
Hardie Pipe supplied 3,088ft of Class III standard Hardie® Pipe for storm drain systems, including storm sewers, side and cross drains to the 8th Street Project from Liberty Street to Main Street. The $7.3 million 8th Street upgrade in Jacksonville is scheduled for completion in June 2007.
